The apex court on Wednesday allowed the counsels of 10 persons, convicted by the military court, to examine their trial record on the condition to avoid making it public. A 5-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali resumed the hearing of the pleas filed by the family members of 10 persons - convicted by the military court for their involvement in various terrorist's activities.
During the course of proceedings, the concerned officials submitted military trial record of the case in pursuance of the court's earlier directives while counsels for the petitioners including Asma Jahangir, Khalid Afrdi and Abdul Latif Afridi appeared in the case. Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, terming all the record highly confidential, informed the counsels that the court has received separate files and record pertaining to the trial record of the convicted persons including witnesses.
Under the fact, the Chief Justice asked the lawyers of the petitioners that if they can give assurance that the details of these files will not be either photographed, nor any of the details will be noted down and also not be shared with any one or be made public, they may be allowed to examine the record.
After the assurance of the counsels for keeping the secrecy of the record intact the court asked them to examine the same either at the office of Attorney General for Pakistan or Registrar Office of the Supreme Court after a week. Hearing of the matter was adjourned till third week of April.
