Majority of industrial units in the city including export-oriented industries are not getting sufficient water and are suffering huge losses and facing non-fulfilment of export orders due to which their reputation is on stake. Industrial areas are facing acute water shortage for the several months and it has become extremely difficult for the industries to complete export orders.
President, Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Zahid Saeed has urged the government to take immediate steps to complete K-4 mega water supply project in shortest possible time to overcome water scarcity in the city. He said that due to shortage of water not only the industry was suffering directly but it was also hitting the pace of exports as well. Zahid said that tanneries, textile, construction and other industries were being directly affected by water shortage in the city.
He said that industrialists had no other way to meet water shortage than buying water through water tankers at exorbitant cost which add huge burden of cot of production. In this age of international competition, the cost of production, which is already higher than the regional competitors, increases many fold if the industries buy water from the tanker mafia. Founder Chairman, All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association Abdullah Shakoor Khatri said that constant decrease in supply of water to textile industry especially the industrial areas including Site was creating a big problem for dying & printing mills.
