Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Liaquat Balouch has said that corruption has become the mother of all ills in the country and has even put the sovereignty of the state at jeopardy.
He expressed these views on Sunday while addressing a walk titled as "Corruption Free Pakistan" organised by JI Karachi chapter. The march was taken out from Islamia College to the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
A large number of people, belonging to all walks of life, participated in the walk.
Speaking on the occasion, Baloch said that corruption was the basic reason of poverty, inflation, unemployment, unrest and terrorism in the country.
Talking about the Panama Papers leaks, he said that Nawaz Sharif should have disassociated himself from the premiership so as to ensure a transparent inquiry. He further said that the proposed commission should be given all powers to investigate the matter.
He demanded of the chief justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of the scandal. He said that a retired officer cannot ensure transparency in probing a scandal, associated with the family of a sitting prime minister.
He further said that several mega projects, including China Pakistan Economic Corridor, were underway and it was impossible to complete them without eradicating corruption from the country.
He said that the JI presents itself and its leadership for any type of accountability and probe with regard to financial malpractices. He said that the party was playing the role of a trailblazer in struggle to eliminate corruption from the society.
He said that corruption had become gangrene of the society and all the political elements, who were corrupt from their core should be uprooted.
Baloch urged the masses to support JI for a corruption free Pakistan that was the only way for the survival of the state.
He added that political corruption is the worst kind of corruption that was shaking the basis of Pakistan. He was of the view that the Election Commission of Pakistan has become a toothless tiger.
