Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Swat Region Inter-District Women Games were kicked up amidst tight security in and around Makan Bagh Ground with great enthusiasm witnessed among male participants Tuesday. Member Provincial Assembly Fazali Hakeem was the chief guest on the occasion who formally inaugurated the Games amidst thundering applauses and jubilations.
Speaking on this occasion, Fazali Hakeem said government efforts have been started to provide maximum sports and recreational facilities for youth so that youth talent could be provided on national and international level. He said that the project of the provision of playgrounds and stadiums on Tehsil level is under way and hurdles in the timely completion of the project are being removed in order to enable the youth of far flung areas to have modern sports facilities.
Fazali Hakeem formally inaugurated the competitions by cutting a tape, followed by National Anthem. The girls and boys of Kapal Kor Model School have a stunning show of gymnastic while the band and national song of GGHS Shadara turned the whole complexion of the ceremony into a melodious one. More than 450 players from three districts Dir Upper, Shangla and Swat are taking part in the 13 different games including cricket, hockey, taekwondo, judo, squash, basketball, volleyball, athletic, badminton, and table tennis.
The Director General (DG) Sports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Miss Rashida Ghaznavi on the spot suspended District Sports Officer Chitral and Dir Lower Rehmat and Ali Rehman for not preparing their respective contingent in the Games. She said the players of District Chitral have contacted her that they want to take part in the Games but they were not brought them. She said no relief would be given to those failed in facilitating the players in any of the district.
