A joint meeting of Pakistan Kidney, Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI & RC) and the officials of the Punjab government, which met with advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique in the chair, discussed the strategies of prevention and awareness of such diseases as hepatitis B and C.
Dr Saeed Akhter, President PKLI said the PKLI plans to dedicate a considerable amount of funds and efforts towards the prevention side. The whooping rise of Hepatitis-C in Pakistan has made it the need of the hour to not only treat the disease but also prevent it from happening at the first place. With such a massive spread of diseases, awareness and prevention have become absolutely crucial and its flow of spread needs to be controlled, he said. DG Health Dr Mukhtar Hussain Syed mentioned the major sources of the diseases are reuse of disposable syringes and the barber shop. Khawaja Salman Rafique said that a coordinated effort at the local level is required to work on prevention.
