The prices of most essential kitchen items remained stable in past week compared to preceding week, found a survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday. The survey observed that the price of live chicken in the wholesale market remained stable at Rs 5,500 per 40 kg, while in the retail market chicken is being sold at Rs 170 per kg while chicken meat price is being sold at Rs 320 per kg.
Sugar price went down by Rs 80 per 50 kg bag in the wholesale market from Rs 3,080 per bag to Rs 3,000 per bag but the retailers have not passed on the impact to the end consumers as sugar is still being sold at Rs 68 per kg when a 50 kg sugar bag was being sold at Rs 3,300 per 50 kg bag. During the week under review prices of most of the vegetables remained unchanged in wholesales market as arvi is being available at Rs 400 per 5 kg, beans at Rs 300 per 5 kg, green chilli from at Rs 400 per 5 kg, ginger at 100 per kg, local garlic at Rs 100 per kg, Chinese garlic at Rs 280 per kg, Maro Kadu at Rs 80 per 5 kg and spinach at Rs 80 per 5 kg.
According to the traders at vegetable market the reduction in vegetable prices as a result of arrival of Punjab's vegetables in the market as Kareela price has witnessed a sharp decline of Rs 450 per 5 kg in wholesale market from Rs 600 per 5 kg to Rs 150 per 5 kg and Brinjal from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 100 per 5 kg.
Tinda is being sold at Rs 120 per 5 kg in wholesales market which in retail market is being available at Rs 30 per kg and capsicum in wholesales market is being sold at Rs 300 per 5 kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 60-65 per kg. The survey observed that the prices of carrot, okra, cauliflower and cabbage slightly went down in the wholesales market as cabbage is being sold at Rs 150 per 5 kg against Rs 200 per 5 kg, carrot at Rs 140 per kg against Rs 150 per 5 kg, cauliflower at Rs 220 per 5 kg against Rs 250 per 5 kg, and okra at Rs 600 per 5 kg against Rs 650 per 5 kg.
There is no change in the price of beef and mutton as boneless beef is being sold at Rs 450 per kg and mixed beef at Rs 380 per kg, mutton at Rs 700 per kg. Onion is being sold at Rs 180 per five kg in wholesales market and at Rs 45 per kg in retail market, peas are being sold at Rs 300 per 5 kg in wholesales which on retail outlets are being sold at Rs 80 per kg, potatoes at Rs 80 per 5 kg in wholesale market and Rs 20 per kg in retail, brinjal is being sold at Rs 20 per kg. Spinach is being sold at Rs 25 per kg, lemon at Rs 80 per kg, mathi at Rs 20 per kg, turnip at Rs 30, carrot at Rs 40 per kg, cucumber is being sold at Rs 20-25 per kg, and Kachnar (Phanera variegate) is being sold at Rs 120 per kg.
The prices of fruits remained stable during the week under review as best quality apple is being sold at Rs 200 per kg, Iranian apples at Rs 120 per kg, while normal quality local apple is available in the range of Rs 60 per kg to Rs 100 per kg, local banana is being sold at Rs 80 per dozen, Indian banana is being sold at Rs 150 per dozen, out of season fruit orange is being sold in the range of Rs 150-200 per dozen and guava at Rs 80 per kg. Strawberry is being sold in the range of Rs 150 per kg to Rs 200 per kg, while melon with no change is available at Rs 50 per kg.
Malsh pulse is being sold at Rs 260 per kg, masoor at Rs 150 per kg, different qualities of mong pulse in the range of 140 to Rs 160 per kg, gram in the range of Rs 110 to Rs 140 per kg, white lobia at Rs 120 per kg, while red and black lobia in the range of Rs 120-140 per kg.
A domestic cylinder of 11.8 kg of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is being sold at Rs 800 per cylinder, while per kg LPG is being available at Rs 75 per kg. While there was no change observed in the prices of different quality rice which are being available in the range of Rs 40 per kg to Rs 130 per kg. Normal quality wheat flour is being sold at Rs 790 per 20 kg bag, while fine quality is being sold at Rs 820 per 20 kg bag, yogurt is being available in the range of Rs 90-100 per kg, while fresh milk is being sold in the range of Rs 80-90 per kg.
