Peshawar clinched the trophy of the female squash after defeating Nowshera in the final while District Nowshera bagged athletic trophy after securing 37 points in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U-23 Female Games being played at BISE Sports Complex Saturday. Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Miss Rashida Ghaznavi and Director Sports BISE Manzar Khan graced the occasion and distributed various trophies among the position holders.
The squash team of Peshawar comprising national ranking players Komal Khan, Laiba Ijaz and Kainat defeated Aysha, Aimen and Shezadi in straight sets. Laiba in the first match defeated her strong rival Aysha by 3-0, the score was 11-7, 11-6 and 11-5, Komal beat Aimen by 3-0, the score was 11-9, 11-7 and 11-6 and Kainat outclassed Shehzadi by 3-0, the score was 11-8, 11-7 and 11-6.
In the Athletic Nowshera upset Peshawar by winning the trophy after securing 37 points, Peshawar got 16 points and Charsadda remained at third with 10 points. For Nowshera Uroosa won gold medal in the discus throw, Saira of Peshawar got silver medal and Farukh of Nowshera took third position. In Javelin throw Saira of Peshawar won gold medal, followed by Reshma of Charsadda and Salma of Nowshera. In 200m Reshma of Nowshera won gold medal, Saima of Peshawar and Kalsoom of Nowshera.
In 400m Aysha won gold medal, Nazish of Charsadda and Basmin of Charsadda. In the 100m Reshma won gold medal and also declared best athlete of the event, Saima of Peshawar and Uroosa of Nowshera. Uroosa of Nowshera was declared as best athlete. In the netball Peshawar defeated Charsadda by 5-4 and clinched the trophy, Peshawar defeated Nowshera in the badminton final while in the cricket event Peshawar got the winning trophy. Peshawar won the toss and scored 72 runs in just 10 overs and in replay Nowshera bundled out for 65 runs. Thus Peshawar won the match by 7 runs.
In the male event Peshawar beat Nowshera by 6-2 and 6-2 in the final. Barkat Ullah, a national ranking player, beat Walid Afridi by 6-2, 6-1, and in the second set Shad Hussain beat Wahab of Nowshera by 6-2 and 6-2 and in the last singles Shan Umar beat Iftikhar by 6-1 and 6-2.
In the squash Peshawar beat Charsadda by 3-0, Asfandiyar , Sam,ad and Shah Room beat Nowshera Javed Khan, Sameer and Asad, all in straight set. In the cricket match played at Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium Peshawar beat Nowshera by 15 runs. President Peshawar District Cricket Association Syed Fayyaz Ali Shah was the chief guest. Nowshera while a batting first 139 runs. Nabi Gul scored 50 runs. For Peshawar Shakeel got two wickets and Sajid took three wickets. In reply, Peshawar chased the target for the loss of five wickets with Sajid and Fahar scored 40 and 38 runs each. At the end the chief guest gave away trophies and cash prizes. The winners got Rs15,000 and runners-up took Rs10,000 prize money.
