Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that our youth have potential and steps have been taken to provide them with a healthy environment for sports and hence prevent the young generation from going into unhealthy activities.
He said steps are being taken for development of health sector, provision of modern health and education facilities and promotion of sports in Fata. He said no efforts would be spared to provide the opportunity to tribal youth to excel in sports and healthy activities. We are committed to bring the people of FATA into the mainstream by utilising all available resources.
He was addressing as Chief Guest on the eve of Volley ball Match in connections with the celebrations of the International Day of Sports for Peace & Development here at Qayum sports Complex, Peshawar on Sunday. The Governor further pointed out that indeed, the sports oriented events certainly contribute positively in restoring confidence of the general public.
Besides, former Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shaukatullah, Salim Saifullah, Vittorio Cammarota, Director UNIC, Lieutenant General Syed Arif Hasan (retd) President POA, Yaqoob Chaudhry, Chairman Pakistan Volley Ball Federation, Syed Aqil Shah, President KP Olympic Association, KP Sports Writer Association and others were also present on the occasion.
In the Volley Ball Match between the KP and FATA teams, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won the match.
Addressing the ceremony, the Governor said KP and FATA do not lack talent and our youth had proved their abilities internationally. Their success sufficiently proved the fact that there is no dearth of talent and there is only need to offer opportunities to young players to further prove their worth.
The Governor said steps been keen to provide education facilities to tribesmen adding that they had already imposed education emergency in the tribal region with main focus on ensuring 100 percent enrolment and retentions in the schools.
The Governor congratulated the players and organisers for their joint efforts to promote sport for peace. He said that the sport is the only medium which guarantees the development of good health, harmony, friendship and social values in the society. He said they are committed to address the genuine problems of sportsmen.
The Governor stated that Sport has a power to unite people, bring harmony, goodwill and friendship among the society. He appreciated the joint efforts of UNIC, HEC, PSB and POA for celebrating the International Day of Sports for Peace & Development in a befitting manner.
