The elected representatives of local government from Union Council 27 and 28 in Peshawar have warned the government to stage protest against excessive power load shedding in their localities. While addressing a press conference at press club on Monday, Nazim UC 28 Hazar Khawani Peshawar, Sher Ahmad said that residents were being experienced with 18 to 20 hours long electricity load shedding in the area, despite the timely payment of bills.
Flanked by General Councillor from UC-28, and retired Wapda officer, Fazal Khaliq, Taj Muhammad, Arbab Akbar Nawaz and elected representatives of the area, he recalled that a verbal agreement was reached between Pesco authorities and MPA from this constituency, Fazal Elahi during last summer that Pesco would ensure uninterrupted electricity supply on the condition of installation of power meter at cost of Rs 5,225 per meter.
But, he said the Pesco didn't abide with the agreement, and officials asked them it was no worth of unwritten agreement, and they should go for fresh agreement and pay Rs 7,000 per meter, which he termed was completely unjust with people of the area. "We are ready to install power meters under the previous agreement, and we will not accept any new policy in this regard, Ahmad said.
He added federal government and Wapda continuously carried out discrimination with people of the KP. He said the recovery ratio was around 60 to 70 percent in the area, despite the fact the electricity didn't supply smoothly, while Pesco faced line losses of 90 to 99 percent, supplying uninterrupted electricity there. The elected representative said that power distribution and supply system had become outdated in area, while Pesco officials are reluctant to visit the locality to replace the outdated electricity wires.
