In response to allegations hurled by Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) leader Mustafa Kamal, Convenor of Mutahhida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Nadeem Nusrat demanded immediate ban on PSP, saying that MQM workers and leaders are being forced to quit party and join PSP. He was addressing a news conference through video link from London, here at MQM headquarters on Monday.
He appealed to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif to intervene in the matter and stop 'baseless' propaganda against the party. The senior MQM leader also demanded an end to a ban on media coverage of speeches of the party chief, saying he should be given a chance to clarify himself.
Despite false allegations, he said people have always trust in MQM's chief Altaf Hussain. He said that the allegations levelled against Altaf Hussain and other party leaders were baseless. "Limiting the party is not an easy task because MQM lives in the hearts of people," he added. He was flanked by MQM leaders Mustafa Azizabadi, Inbisat Malik, Izhar Ahmed Khan and Muhammad Ashfaq.
"MQM is the sole political party, which, under the dynamic leadership of Altaf Hussain, has brought revolution by bringing people from low-income classes of the society to the Parliament and Assemblies," he added. "It is unfortunate to see that the MQM founder and leader Altaf Hussain had in recent past produced a mammoth rally in support of the armed forces of Pakistan and he had offered sincere salutations but still he has been sidelined through a planned scheme under which he is being called as agent of an enemy country's spy agency - RAW," he deplored.
On the contrary, the people in millions continued to support the MQM and adhering to the ideology of the MQM Chief, which resulted in sweeping general and by-elections victory. He pointed that a section of the national media was hell bent on maligning the MQM and its chief Altaf Hussain. However, this particular agenda is tantamount to negating the genuine record of genocide of Mohajirs by the anti-Mohajir elements.
Nusrat said that long before the MQM and emergence of the MQM Chief Altaf Hussain as sole and undisputed leader of Mohajirs, Mohajirs were subjected to lethal ethnic violence in which thousands were slaughtered on streets. "It is unfortunate that the national media that always sidelined the MQM is now in deep relations with those dissenters, who ran the MQM for 20 years. These elements were always unacceptable until they were in MQM but today they are their beloved after having been dry-cleaned," he informed.
He said that Ashfaq Mangi, who quit MQM on Monday, was facing various legal cases and was hiding here and there to escape arrest. "The mounting pressure led him to jump into the dry cleaning machine installed at Khayaban-e Sahar in DHA and now he is safe and free from all worries as are others in this dissenters' bloc," he said.
