Thirty-two prominent engineering products exporters from Pakistan will participate in 'Hannover Messe', the world's largest fair of industrial products being held in Hannover Germany from April 25 to 29, 2016, official sources told Business Recorder.
Engineering Development Board (EDB), a subsidiary of Ministry of Industries and Production (MoI&P) is organising Pakistan Pavilion at the event, after a gap of eight years, with the funding support provided by the Ministry of Commerce through Export Development Fund (EDF). Hannover Messe is world's premier industrial fair that attracts leading professionals from across the globe, from all sectors of industry. The high profile event is usually inaugurated by the President or the Prime Minister of the partner country. The last year's event was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendar Modi wherein he launched the "Make in India" campaign. This year, USA is the partner country at Hannover Messe and President Barrack Obama will be inaugurating the event along with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
In over five action-packed days, some 5,000 exhibitors from across the world will be showcasing the latest technologies for the factories and energy systems. The Hannover Messe always succeeds in putting major spotlight on product innovations, industry trends and the latest advances in Research and Development.
The different trade fairs featured under the umbrella of this event, besides the innumerable forums, discussions and conferences, under-score the key importance of industrial engineering as a driving force behind the global economy. Pakistan Pavilion at the trade fair, over an area of 511 sq. meter, will showcase 32 top of the line Pakistani engineering companies in the Industrial Supply Chain category. A group of 15-20 delegates from leading technical universities and industries having export potential would also accompany the delegation.
It is important to note that there is a mismatch in Pakistan's export product mix vis-à-vis global market. While 34% of international trade is in engineering goods, Pakistan's export of engineering products is barely 1% of the total exports of Pakistan. On the other hand, textiles constitute around 56% of Pakistan's exports whereas this sector constitutes only 4% of the international trade. The future for Pakistan's stagnating exports lies in fast track development of engineering sector, said one of the exhibitors. The government is gradually realising its importance and engineering sector has been selected as one of the priority sectors in the recently announced strategic trade policy framework.
