The Senate Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions on Tuesday recommended to send corruption cases of the Communication and Works (C&W) officials to National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Some officials of the department are reportedly involved for taking commission in getting approval for tenders. The committee met with Hilal-ur-Rehman in the chair here on Tuesday.
The parliamentarians recommended that transparent audit into the developmental projects should be conducted. The body also directed to take action against the officials of C&W department for taking commission in approving tenders.. The same nature of allegations was also levelled on irrigation department, the committee observed. The committee reviewed different matters regarding education and health sectors in Fata. The committee expressed annoyance over the absence of high ups of the Fata Development Authority (FDA) and Fata secretariat from the meeting and warned that bureaucracy is answerable to the Parliament and action will be taken, if the same attitude continued.
The officials while briefing the committee stated that education and health sectors are being strictly monitored while measures have been taken to ensure officials presence. The committee termed the recruitment of 157 levies personnel non-transparent. Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi termed the inquiry about the recruitment unsatisfactory. He said that allegations were levelled on Fata and the inquiry was also carried by it which is strange. The committee directed transparency in all matters.
