Sindh Assembly on Monday paid tribute to its former member, late Sardar Muqeem Khan Khoso for his service as a lawmaker. He died on April 16, at the age of 67. Sindh Senior Education Minister, Nisar Khuhro tabled a motion to adjourn the house without taking the assembly business to mourn the death of senior lawmaker. Scores of legislators paid tributes to late Sardar Khoso.
The house adopted the move to put off its proceedings till Tuesday morning. After the session, MQM's Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hasan - the opposition leader in the house, told reporters that he had just returned home after performing Umrah. He said that Assembly custodian had hastily accepted the MQM lawmakers' resignations and did not call them to authenticate their quitting of the provincial legislature.
All lawmakers of MQM are united, he said, adding that his party would field candidates for by-polls on the just vacant slots mainly were left open after his former colleagues quit the Assembly posts. Izhar said that he also demanded for declaring corruption a serious crime with a capital punishment or lifetime imprisonment in the law.
"It is tragic that a person involved in billion of rupees corruption is being bailed against Rs 10, 000 guarantees. There should be a fresh legislation to eliminate corruption," he said and assured his party's support in anti-corruption lawmaking. He said that the days of individual corruption had gone past and the era of "reconciled corruption" has just begun.
