Deputy Inspector General Police (East) Dr Kamran Fazal Siddiqui has vowed to take action against policemen if they are found involved in criminal activities. Speaking at a luncheon meeting of Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (Abad) on Wednesday, he said that police were striving to eradicate crime. He said that the anti-encroachment cell established in Abad had been reactivated.
On the reservations raised by the builders regarding encroachments on their land in the District East, the DIG said that police were taking stern action against land mafia and street criminals under the directives of Sindh High Court. The DIG said that all problems could be solved if intentions were correct and claimed that the crime rate in the city had decreased as compared to previous years.
Meanwhile, Abad Chairman Hanif Gohar said that the association had raised the problems of its members at every forum. He said that the association would continue to raise its voice for provision of low-cost houses to low-income group. He requested the DIG to take remedial measures towards resolving the issues being faced by Abad members. He said that the association had sent budget proposals to the government and hoped that they would be taken seriously for the development of Pakistan.
He lauded the government's decision to lift the ban on gas connections for high-rise buildings and asked the authorities to take similar measures to scale down the prices of cement and steel, which he said had affected the people. Abad vice-chairman Rizwan Adhia urged the DIG to reactivate Police-Abad joint committee.
