The National Assembly Standing Committee on Communications on Thursday took serious notice of the absence of Secretary Communications, Inspector General National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) and Chairman National Highways Authority (NHA) from the meeting. The members of the Standing Committee on Communications visited the office of Inspector General, National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) and held a meeting in the chair with Sufyan Yusuf. However, all the three officials remained absent from the meeting which annoyed the committee.
The IG and Secretary Communications have been promoted in grade-22 and were called on to the presidency to attend the ceremony.
The committee evaluated the performance of National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) and observed that accidents on the Motorways increased during the last few years.
According to the data accidents and death ratios increased in 2015 as compared to 2014 on motorways and highways. A total of 1027 accidents were reported in 2015 claiming 650 lives, besides injuries to 1858 others against 394 accidents, 525 deaths and 1054 injuries in 2014.
The Committee directed to take measures and increase strength on the Motorways to overcome the issue of accidents. The department's responsibility increased by 800 kilometer during the last 6 years but is facing serious human resource constraints to cover it. The demand would increase four times after handing over of the CPEC route and therefore needs more sanctions.
The Committee also considered the development projects of NH&MP regarding the establishment of police posts and offices along National Highway (N-6) and Training Center of Sheikhupura.
Sarzameen, Chaudhry Khalid Javaid Warraich, Maiza Named, Nazir Ahmed Bughio, Ramesh Lal, Salim Rehman, Engineer Hamid-ul-Haq Khalil, Muhammad Muzammil Qureshi, Sahibzada Tariq Ullah, Naseema Hafeez Panezai, Engineer Usman Khan Tarakai and Shahjehan Muneer Mangrio attended the meeting.
