The Supreme Court Thursday sought replies from the federation, Sindh government, Navel Commander Karachi and other respondents in response to a plea over environmental protection and unnecessary construction of overhead bridges in Karachi.
Appearing before a three-member bench led by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar in the matter, Pakkahar Welfare Association' representative submitted that an advertising company was given contract to construct the pedestrian bridge in the area with rights to place billboard in Karsaz.
The petitioner alleged that cutting of a total of 16,000 trees from Karsaz has become an environmental hazard to which the bench asked the Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan who is behind cutting of trees. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar observed that a plant is life which has great importance for pure environment.
Hearing of the matter was adjourned till first week of June.
