Veteran politician and Chairperson of Awami National Party (ANP-Wali group), Begum Naseem Wali Khan has called for an across-the-board accountability to prove that there are no "sacred cows" in the country.
She said that a perfect mechanism should be devised for the accountability of corrupt elements as it is injustice that those who looted billions of rupees from national exchequer but go scot-free by paying some amount through plea bargain.
She added the people, who were not able to purchase a house, had become billionaires, owners of luxuries vehicles, and properties over night by accumulating illegal wealth.
"Why doest not NAB come into action," she questioned. "I am frustrated with name of accountability," she added.
Addressing a news conference at press club here on Wednesday, she recalled that corruption was also included in the 20-points of National Action Plan (NAP). She said there was much talk about corruption in the country. But, she asked if any serious efforts were made to eliminate it.
She supported the formation of judicial commission under the supervision of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to probe into the allegations, revealed in Panama Leaks. However, she commented that the accountability commissions were constituted in the past, but no desirable objectives were obtained from them.
She referred the commission formed by former president and retired General Pervez Musharraf, and said what was happened with it.
The party chief suggested that such a commission be constituted in the country that will hold across-the-broad accountability. "How and in which way the politicians accumulated huge wealth," she questioned. She said she would not give clean-chit to any one.
Flanked by the party central general secretary, Farid Khan Toofan, Mohsin Ali Khan, former provincial minister, Atifur Rehman, and others, Ms Wali urged the rulers not to disappoint the nation as it had much expectation from the elected people. She said the holding of prolonged 'dharna's' and protest movement couldn't be possible with popular support.
Commenting the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, Ms Wali said his party could not accept any change in the western route. She said it was totally unjust to exploit the rights of the smaller federating units from facilities under the CPEC project.
She criticised the government Punjab-centric policies, adding that perceptions had developed that Punjab is Pakistan, and Pakistan is Punjab. She asked the government to give priority to western route which is significant due to close proximity with Central Asian countries.
Later, ANP-Wali Provincial General Secretary, Farid Toofan, Mohsin Ali Khan, has criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance, for intervention into the matter of the Bank of Khyber. They rejected the committee announced by provincial government to probe into the recent advertisement of the BoK.
They vowed the party would resist any change in original route of China Pakistan Economic Corridor and asked the federal government to ensure rightful share of KP, Fata and Balochistan province in the multi-billion dollars economic corridor project.
