The Met Office Thursday asked farmers to start reaping their grown crops ahead of dry weather in the country. It said that the farmers of southern Punjab and Sindh should begin timely preparing land for cotton crop with a view to attain maximum yield.
Farmers of the irrigated and rain-dependent parts should step up removing weeds from their fields in a bid to help the crops fully consume the existing soil moisture, it advised.
It said that the wheat crop was growing into various maturity stages in most of the agricultural plains of the country and farmers should stop irrigating their crops keeping in view the expected rains.
It forecast mainly dry weather for most parts of Punjab till April 30. However, it said that light to moderate rain was expected in Rawalpindi, Murree and Jhelum from April 21 to April 22. In Sindh, it said that widely dry weather was likely to prevail.
It said that mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa with light to moderate rainfall in Bannu, Hazara and Peshawar divisions from April 21 to April 22.
Mostly dry weather is expected in most parts of Balochistan with light to moderate rain at isolated places of Quetta and Zhob from April 21. Weather in most parts of Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to remain mainly cold and cloudy with light to moderate rain in Gilgit, Skardu and Hunza from April 2 to April 22.
