The Lahore High Court on Monday reserved its verdict on maintainability of a petition against alleged foreign assets maintained by incumbent and former rulers and others. The petitioner, Javed Iqbal Jafree, stated that the respondents transferred at least 400 billion US dollars to foreign countries through money laundering. He said the politicians had not yet submitted their affidavits before the courts about money laundering despite repeated court orders. He urged the court to issue directions to the respondents to bring back their assets to Pakistan.
The counsel of the government opposed the petition. He argued that the petitioner had not provided any document in support of allegations and urged the court to dismiss the petition. The respondents include incumbent Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his wife Kulsoom Nawaz, son Hussain Nawaz, and brother Shahbaz Sharif (Punjab Chief Minister), PTI chief Imran Khan and his former wife Jemima Goldsmith, former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani and former president Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, General (retired) Pervez Musharraf, PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Pervez Elahi, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Malik Riaz Hussain of Bahria Town and others.
