Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said Pakistan values its close friendly relations with Azerbaijan and is keen to enhance ties in defence, energy, commercial and economic fields. The Prime Minister stated this in a meeting with Azerbaijan's Minister for Defence Industry Yavar Jamalov here here at the PM House. Nawaz Sharif recalled his meeting with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at Davos on the sidelines of World Economic Forum this January, where both the leaders agreed to enhance bilateral ties.
Minister Yavar Jamalov said Azerbaijan was keen to explore new opportunities to import defence products and raw material from Pakistan. He extended invitation for Pakistan's participation in the international Defence Exhibition being organised by Azerbaijan in coming September with special reference to JF-17 thunder.
Jamalov appreciated the economic policies of Pakistan's government and also highlighted the need to increase the bilateral trade. He also invited investment from Pakistan in Azerbaijan. Both sides agreed to further enhance cooperation in areas of trade and economics and agreed to continue the joint ministerial meetings to find out new opportunities.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan will participate in the exhibition and extended his greetings and best wishes to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The meeting was attended by Federal minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanvir and Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
