The Karachi Port handled 156,556 tonnes of cargo comprising 131,137 tonnes of import cargo and 25,419 tonnes of export cargo including 3,435 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 131,137 tonnes comprised of 27,731 tonnes of containerised cargo; 12,396 tonnes of bulk cargo; 5,938 tonnes of fertilizer and 85,072 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 25,419 tonnes comprised of 15,908 tonnes of containerised cargo; 359 tonnes of bulk cargo and 9,152 tonnes of loose bulk cement. As many as 3,435 containers comprising of 1,495 containers import and 1,940 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 663 of 20's and 416 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 385 of 20's and 307 of 40's loaded containers while 157 of 20's and 392 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were two ships namely Kota Kasturi and Sima Prestige carrying containers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were three vessels viz. Leopard, Batam Trader and Chang Hang Fu Hai carrying containers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were two ships namely As Orelia and MT Shalamar carrying chemical and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday while six ships namely Ital Laguna, Leopard, YM Excellence, Nave Rigel, Jin Gang and JS Rhone carrying containers, steel and DAP respectively are expected to sail on Friday. There were four vessels viz. Kota Lembah, Seacon-7, Hony Future and Mimasaka carrying containers and steel respectively due to arrive on Thursday while two vessels viz. Al Abdali and Baoxiang carrying containers respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
The total export cargo of 31,587 tonnes includes 1,187 tonnes of cement and 30,400 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,700 containers comprising of 2,100 containers import and 1,600 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. There were two ships namely CV Maersk Stepnica and CV UASC Al-Khor carrying containers sailed out to sea on Thursday.
A total number of six vessels viz. CV Maersk Stepnica, CV UASC Al-Khor, MV Johar Express, MV Amalthia, MV Hope Star and MT Okyroe currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, soyabean seeds, clinker and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as two ships namely MT Karachi and MT Omera Queen carrying furnace oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Thursday. There was one vessel viz. CV Maipo carrying containers expected to take berth at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Thursday.
There were ten ships namely CV MSC Albany, CV MSC Lucy, CV Rio Bravo, CV Maersk Innoshima, CV Safmarine Nyassa, MT Bronia, MT Plymouth, MT Nord Innovation, MT Tomini Harmony and MV Sea Fortune carrying containers and furnace oil, soyabean, diesel oil and chemical respectively due to arrive on Thursday. There is one ship namely MT Al-Sheehaniya carrying LNG due to arrive on Friday.
