Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Labour and Mineral Development, Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli has said that the formulation of labour and child labour policy to prevent child labour have been included as project in annual development program (ADP) of the province.
She said that the minimum wage of workers will also be increased and in case of taking labour for mover than the specified time of eight hours, then the responsible will face action.
She expressed these views while addressing two separate functions in connections with Labour Day under the auspices of Muthahida Labour Federation (MLF) in Nowshera and PTI Labour Wing in PK-6 here Sunday.
MPAs Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, Fazal Elahi, provincial president, MLF, Mohammad Iqbal, Faqir Hussain and others also addressed the functions.
The provincial minister said that a fund of Rs 110 million were being provided for provision of free education and scholarships to the children of workers. She said that under 18th Constitutional Amendment, Workers Welfare Fund and Employees Old Age Benefit Institute (EOBI) have been devolved to provinces. However, only Sindh province has passed legislation while Punjab is also working on it. However, she said that the devolution of these institutes will not be in the benefit of KP. Therefore, KP Assembly has passed a unanimous resolution for keeping these institutions with federal government.
Furthermore, she said the matter is also subjudice in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Therefore, she said, they request the government of Punjab to support the terrorism, poverty and extremism effected province through withdrawing its case from the court.
She said that the coalition government is taking solid realistic steps for the welfare of labourers community and in this connection besides ensuring quality medicines in the health units established for workers, new doctors were also being recruited.
She said that labour courts have been established and the officers of the Labour Department have been issued clear instructions for provision of services to labourers.
Anisa Zeb said that men with credibility will be selected as members on Workers Welfare Board, which will represent workers in true sense.
The board, she said has no space for wrong doers. She said that very soon a resolution will be brought to provincial assembly for rising EOBI pension to Rs 10,000, saying quarters allotment policy will be framed after taking the CBA into confidence.
