No meeting of the apex court's judges on the formation of a commission on the Panama Leaks scandal was held on Monday. "No such meeting regarding the Panama Leaks scandal was held in Supreme Court," the spokesperson for the court, Shahid Hussain Kamboyo, said. Federal government sent a letter to the apex court' registrar on April 23 with a request to constitute a commission to probe the authenticity of the information contained in the Panama Papers. However, the commission's formation was not possible as the Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali was abroad.
Upon returning from Turkey, the Chief Justice of Pakistan resumed his office on Monday but no activity was found about formation of the commission. Some media houses, however, disseminated news about a consultative meeting of the apex court judges on the commission; to which, Kamboyo clarified that no such meeting took place during the course of the day in the Supreme Court.
