Strike in Sindh against 20th Constitutional Amendment Bill
KARACHI: A complete shutter down strike is being observed against the 20th Constitutional Amendment Bill in Sindh on Saturday.
The strike has been called by the Sindh Bachao Committee. Due to the strike, public transport has been thin causing difficulties for residents of the city.
A demonstration was carried out in Hyderabad while roads were also blocked. Areas affected by today’s strike include Sukkur, Nawabshah, Sakrand, Dolat Pur, Umer Kot and others where a complete wheel jam stike was observed.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) submitted the 20th Constitutional Amendment Bill in the National Assembly. The bill facilitates division of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a Seraiki and Hazara province and abrogation of article 2-3-9 (Clause 4).
Sindhi nationalists have opposed this clause saying that it would give the federal government power to alter limits of provinces without consulting the province in question and have also alleged that the MQM had the division of Sindh on the agenda.
