Ministry of Water and Power is facing deficit of around 6500MW electricity, which is being managed through a designed load management plan across the country with 6 hours in urban areas and 8-10 hours in rural areas whereas some areas are being supplied electricity based on recovery, well informed sources told Business Recorder. "There is no forced load shedding in any part of the county but those areas which do not pay bills are being supplied electricity based on recovery," the sources added.
Presently power generation from all sources is around 12700 MW whereas officially claimed demand is 18300 MW as the gap is 5500MW of which 4320 MW is deficit while 1200 MW is system constraints. However, actual demand is above 20,000MW which will further increase to 22,000 to 23,000MW in June and July. An official told Business Recorder that a grid of 500 KV at Shikarpur is undergoing testing process which will be completed within a week which will facilitate transmission of power to the system from Guddu which was not being transmitted to South due to system constraints. Grid station of 220 KV has already been completed.
Presently, there are five circuits of 500 KV two down and three up-country - due to which entire generation from South cannot be transmitted. With the functioning of new 500 KV grid station at Shikarpur, unutilised 800-900 MW electricity will be transmitted from South to North.
"Now we will be able to get electricity from Foundation Power, Liberty Power. Uch power plant will also be run on full capacity," the official said, adding that presently the NPC C has to choose between Guddu plant and others due to transmission constraints. "There is an overall improvement in the system besides addition of around 1500 MW electricity to the system which implies the load shedding duration will almost remain at the level of last year," the official added. In reply to a question, the official said that presently 300 MW projects of alternative sources are also under commission.
