Governor Sindh, Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan has called for induction of specialists and cardiac surgeons on contract basis at the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD) here. He was speaking at a meeting regarding the problems of KIHD on Wednesday. In view of the shortage of specialists and cardiac surgeons at KIHD, the Governor directed for induction of such staff on contract basis, a summary be prepared for the Chief Minister Sindh.
He said that this would help provide timely angioplasty and bypass treatment to the patients. Dr Ishrat ul Ebad also called for immediate steps for provision of medicines and required equipment for the KHID and a working paper be prepared in this regard with estimates for the required funds.
He further stated that steps be taken linking the KIHD, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Cardiology Institute of Dow University of Health Sciences and the Cardiac Unit of Civil Hospital Karachi to immediately shift any patient to one of these facilities for treatment if needed. The Governor said that in case of heart ailments or heart attack, the patient needs immediate treatment. Therefore, steps be taken for fully keeping functional the emergencies at the hospital.
For the requirement of Rs 140 million for the oxygen plant and supply of gas, the Governor directed the Administrator Karachi and Commissioner Karachi to approach the Finance Department. Dr Ishart was informed that the daily OPDs at the KIHD is about 400 patients. In January this year, the revenue was to the tune of Rs 2.2 million which increased to Rs 4.8 million in April.
