Work on detailed engineering design of Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project is continuing, which will be completed in January 2017. This was stated by Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Zafar Mahmood during his visit to the project site located in Mohmand Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). Wapda General Manager (Hydro) Planning, General Manager (Projects) North and representatives of the consultants were also present during the visit.
Speaking on the occasion, Wapda Chairman said Mohmand Dam, being a multi-purpose project, was of immense importance for socio-economic uplift of the country, as it would not only generate low-cost hydel electricity but also provide water for agriculture besides mitigating flood in Charsadda, Peshawar and Nowshera. He directed the project authorities that detailed engineering design of the project be completed as early as possible so that construction work could be started on the project.
During his visit to the dam site, the Chairman witnessed the activities of topographic survey and geological investigations required for detailed engineering design of Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project. It is pertinent to mention that Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project has a gross water storage capacity of 1.3 million acre feet (MAF) to mitigate floods and irrigate about 17 thousand acres of land.
