The Punjab Food Authority and the Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department have launched a joint a raid on meat shops at the Tollington Market and claimed to have confiscated 12 maunds of beef and 11 maunds of chicken meat. Thursday's raid saw the confiscated meat being handed over to the Livestock Department and 13 shopkeepers arrested.
Apart from the joint raid, the PFA's teams also raided the canteen of the Fatima Memorial Hospital in the Shadman area and sealed it off because of poor hygiene. The Gulberg Town team, headed by Operations Director Ayesha Mumtaz, made surprise raids on food outlets in the Mini Market in Gulberg and sealed the Burger Corner, while the Bashir and Iqbal bakeries, both located in the Garhi Shahu area, also met the same fate. Its Samanabad Town counterpart sealed off the Bismillah Juice Corner and Hotel and the Bismillah Hotel located on the Shah Kamal Road. The Chaman Foods, near Soay Aasil, too closed down.
