The Federal Ministry of Human Rights in collaboration with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Shaheed Benazirabad organised a seminar on Human Rights - Education and Sensitisation on Thursday under the Action Plan for Human Rights. The overall objective of the seminar was to give orientation to the university students and faculty members on human rights issues and initiatives taken by the Government of Pakistan for protection of human rights in the country.
Around 200 students and faculty members participated in the seminar. Iqbal Pasha, Regional Director (Human Rights) Karachi shared the government's national and international commitments in the field of human rights. While highlighting the role of duty bearers and stakeholders he emphasised on the importance of "Students' Drive for Promotion of Human Rights" in the country. He also motivated the participants to refer victims of human rights violations through Toll Free Helpline (1099) for legal advice on human rights violations.
Professor Dr Tayyaba, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Shaheed Benazirabad highlighted the role of Academia, Media & Civil Society Networks for promotion of Human Rights and appreciated the role of Ministry of Human Rights and assured to continue collaboration with the Ministry, as a regular feature.
While concluding the seminar, Arshad Saleem, Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Shaheed Benazirabad appreciated the government's current initiatives for promotion of human rights and stressed on creation of awareness among general public and duty bearers on fundamental rights. Rukhsana Umar, Assistant Director, (Human Rights), Islamabad acted as Programme Co-ordinators and shared the objectives of the seminar.-PR
