In keeping with this long term mission, SECMC has partnered with Aman Tech to bring a first-of-its-kind masonry training course in its operational area in Thar Block II.
SECMC is a public-private partnership between the Government of Sindh and leading private companies - Engro, Thal, Hubco, HBL and the China Machinery & Engineering Company. The company has been allotted Block II of the Thar Coal Field to develop its mining and power projects and aims to provide affordable and sustainable electricity to the country with the application of world-class mining practices in Thar while ensuring socio-economic development of the Thar region. SECMC will make certain that the immediate and peripheral communities of Block II reap the benefits of the economic activity in the area without disrupting the natural &traditional social fabric of this beautiful desert land. The company's CSR programme is the core apparatus through which it aims to channel development in four core areas; health, education, livelihoods and skill development and cultural preservation.
SECMC and Aman Tech's masonry training programme will be held at the company's site office in Block II Thar from May to August this year through which initially 35 participants from seven villages will receive comprehensive three-month training in masonry skills. This is the first phase of this programme and the company hopes to continue and further expand it. Every possible measure has been taken to ensure that the selection process is fair and all residents of Block II have an equal chance of getting selected.
"SECMC and Aman Tech's masonry programme will increase the employment capability of the youth of Thar and will bring socio-economic development to the region, in line with Aman Foundation's vision of transforming lives" said Aman Tech Head, Atyab Tahir.
"With the launch of this programme, we have achieved a major milestone in empowering the people of Thar to take hold of their destiny and craft a brighter future," said SECMC's CEO Shamsuddin Shaikh. The programme is only the first in a series of initiatives planned to expand the skill set of the young Thari population and give them a better chance of getting employment and being included in the skilled workforce required for the mining and power projects in SECMC operated Thar Block II.-PR
