Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on Thursday thwarted an attempt to supply 18,000 litres contaminated milk to outlets in the federal capital. An official said that the ICT team headed by magistrate Abdul Hadi along with officials of district health department and police, during inspection of different vehicles seized 18,000 litre contaminated milk and dairy products including meat of dead animals near Tarnol Toll Plaza.
He said the products were contaminated and unfit for human consumption and were being transported from different cities of Punjab to the metropolis when confiscated by the ICT team headed by a magistrate. The ICT team also apprehended 15 persons for their alleged involvement in this illegal trade and impounded 10 vehicles used to transport the contaminated products.
Official stated, on preliminary examination a high content of urea was detected to be mixed in the milk and dairy products, whereas the meat seized during the inspection drive revealed it to be of dead animals and unfit for human consumption. The ICT administration later initiated cases against the accused involved under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Pure Food Ordinance 1960 at the Tarnol police station.
