The Federal Government has assured that as part of the CPEC the rehabilitation and up-gradation of Indus highways, the construction of a link/node to it from Jhund to Kohat, and D.I.Khan to Zhub, the doubling of railways track from Rawalpindi to Peshawar and the construction of missing links of railways track via ML-1and; thus the western link will be taken up on urgent basis.
The Prime Minister will soon inaugurate the Western Route and it was also decided that the KP government will submit the feasibilities of 3 to 4 industrial zones of which the most feasible one will be taken up as part of the CPEC. Over all four such industrial zones one each from every province will be taken up for development and investment. It was further decided that representatives of the provinces particularly from KP will be included to the Federal Government' taskforces so that the provinces are kept in close contact on all the projects related to the CPEC.
These decisions were made when KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak leading a parliamentary delegation met Federal Minister Planning, Development & Reform Ahsan Iqbal in Islamabad Tuesday evening. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Speaker KP Assembly Asad Qaisar, Senior Ministers KP Sikandar Khan Sherpao, Inayatullah Khan, Shah Ram Khan Tarakai, Mohammad Atif, Senators Numan Wazir, Mohsin Aziz, Opposition Leader in KP Assembly Maulana Lutfur Rehman, Parliamentary Leader of PML (N) in provincial assembly Aurangzeb Naluta, Additional Chief Secretary KP Mohammad Azam Khan and heads of other related organisations.
The Federal Minister was assisted by Chairman Planning Commission, Secretary Planning, heads and chairman of Federal Government Organisations like NHA, Railways, Minerals, communication, trade and industries. They expressed satisfaction over the implementation of All Parties Conferences (APCs)'s decisions on Western route and resolved to move on others projects through mutual co-ordination.
Linkages of parts of KP with Western Route as well as development of industrial economic zones were discussed in the meeting it was agreed that work on western route is progressing according to consensus of May 28, 2015 in APC. Indus up-gradation will be prioritised and Kohat-Jund Road will be included in PSDP-2016-17. Meeting was informed that Peshawar-DI Khan section of Railway is covered under CPEC.
The Co-ordination Committee will brief representatives of provinces about working to technical group of CPEC. Federal Minister Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal allayed the concerns of KP leadership on western route and said that CPEC is a national project and it is responsibility of all provinces and regions to work jointly to make it a success. "We should be mindful that some forces don't want to see CPEC to become successful. Therefore we need to work more closely, he urged. Ahsan Iqbal assured KP committee that federal government would implement the consensus reached on CPEC by national political leadership at two APCs in letter and spirit.
