The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Rawalpindi has arrested accused Shafqat Ali Cheema, Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the complaint of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The accused is involved in assets beyond known sources of income case. Assets inquiry of the subject was initiated by NAB Rawalpindi, Assets Performa served to the subject and the same has been returned by him after completion. General search of assets in the name of subject and his family members was initiated whereby most of the replies from concerned authorities have been received.
Bank accounts search of subject and his Cable Business Company was also carried out which showed heavy turnover. Salary and service record has also been received from concerned quarters by NAB Rawalpindi, As per details, the NAB received complaint against accused Shafqat Ali Cheema, Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The accused has frequent foreign private tours with family to Europe and US in recent years. The accused shall be produced before Accountability Court Islamabad on Wednesday for 14 days physical remand under the NAB Ordinance 1999.
DG NAB Rawalpindi Zahir Shah said that in the light of the directions of NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, all-out efforts are being made to arrest corrupt and recover looted money from swindlers and individuals. He said the chairman NAB has categorically directed to all ranks of officers/officials of the bureau to pursue proactively corruption cases as per the NAB's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) transparently and on merit and take necessary measures to arrest corrupt and proclaimed offenders in order to eradicate corruption from the country.-PR
