The Punjab Assembly has passed the Punjab Agriculture, Food and Drug Authority Bill 2016 that seeks forensic examination and testing of fertiliser pesticide, food and drug, to render an expert opinion in respect of ingredients and quality of fertiliser, pesticide, food or drug and to deal with other related matters. Nine members discussed the amendments proposed in the law.
The legislatures of the treasury benches said that the proposed authority was vital for provision of quality drugs, supply of best agri-medicines and fertilisers besides adulteration-free food to the masses. It would help the government curb substandard and adulterated food, drugs, agri-medicines and sprays and it would be autonomous without any interference. The House adopted a resolution extending the period of validity of the Punjab Civilian Victims of Terrorism (Relief and Rehabilitation) Ordinance 2016 for a further period of ninety days with effect from 5th June 2016. The Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan introduced the Punjab Animal Slaughter Control (Second Amendment) Bill 2016 in the house. The proposed amendment clarifies that meat or carcass which does not bear the stamp, mark, tag or certification of a slaughter house has been slaughtered in contravention of the Act.
