Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman Tuesday met with former President and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari in London and discussed prevailing political situation in the country, it is learnt. According to sources, Maulana Fazlur Rehman arrived in London when he urged Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to consider a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with a view to finding a solution to the ongoing controversy in the wake of the Panama Papers.
The sources said that in a three-hour-long session with Zardari, the JUI-F chief tried to persuade the former president not to become a part of the united opposition and to adopt soft attitude towards the PML-N government. The premier is in London for a 'medical checkup'. The sources said that during the previous medical check-up of Prime Minster Nawaz Shairf in London, a meeting was also arranged between the Prime Minister and Asif Ali Zardari. They said that Interior Minster Chaudhry Nisar Ali was also present in that meeting. They said that Asif Ali Zardari especially wanted to meet Nisar to discuss the issue of Dr Asim and the on-going Ranger operation in Karachi. However spokesperson for former president, Senator Farhatullah Babar denied any meeting between Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Asif Ali Zardari, adding that "nor is there any such meeting on the cards."
