The Pakistan Awami Tehreek will be observing its 27th Foundation Day on Wednesday, May 25, for which special arrangements and functions have been chalked out. The main function will be held in the PAT Model Town secretariat and senior leader Dr Hassan Mohiyuddin Qadri will be the chief guest. A cake will be cut and a seminar will be held. The heirs of the martyrs of the Model Town incident have been invited.
The secretary general of the party Khurram Nawaz Gandapur while briefing newsmen said that the Day will mark the 27 years of our struggle against tyranny. He said seminars will be held in several other cities of the country. He said on the 28th a seminar will be held in Karachi where Dr Hassan Mohiyuddin Qadri will be the main speaker. He further said that PAT will stage a sit-in in Lahore on June 17 to mark the anniversary of Model Town killings and the Tehreek's supremo Allama Dr Tahirul Qadri would lead the sit-in to recall the killings and said that the perpetrators would not be allowed to run away. He alleged that the nation would not forgive the Sharif family for illegally transferring their wealth abroad and they would be held accountable for this.
Referring to the decision between the government and the opposition parties to form a parliamentary panel with regards to probe into Panama Leaks, he said that such cosmetic developments would not impede the struggle of the poor and less-privileged segments of the society. Earlier Gandapur had written a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan seeking action against NEPRA wherein it had admitted overcharging in consumer bill. The Nepra had received over Rs 65 billion by overcharging in the electricity bills under the guise of factious heads of surcharges. This report was presented in the Council of Common Interests meeting held recently. Gandapur demanded strict action against the persons responsible for this crime.
