Chief Minister, Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday visited the site where a godown wall collapsed owing to ongoing construction work at the Quaid-e-Azam Interchange near Manawan and sought details of incident.
Shahbaz Sharif expressed his grief and condoled the deaths of seven labourers and offered Fateha. Speaking on the occasion, he said the deaths of the labourers due to collapse of an under-construction wall is tragic and the Punjab Government sympathies with the bereaved families.
Chief Minister Punjab said, he had imposed a ban on construction of factories in populated areas a few years ago. He said, despite the ban, the construction of a factory and a godown in a congested area is a question mark on the performance of concerned civic departments.
Shahbaz Sharif promised that those responsible will not be allowed to escape punishment. He said that he is deeply grieved over the incident and visited the tragic site to personally review the situation.
He said that he has taken notice of this tragic incident and along with officials of the concerned departments - action would also be initiated against the factory owner under the relevant laws. He also promised compensation to dependents of the dead labourers.
He expressed his displeasure over the construction of the goodown without obtaining no objection certificate (NOC) from the concerned departments.
The Chief Minister at the site was accompanied by Kh. Ahmad Hasaan, Waheed Gul MPA, Commissioner Lahore Division, DG LDA and staff.
