A number of users using Google Pixel and devices running on Android 9 Pie reported their phones’ settings being altered mysteriously. However, Google later acknowledged that it was to blame.

Recently a few people owning Google Pixel phones and devices working on the latest Android 9 Pie noticed their Battery Saver feature turned on all by itself, and not even on low battery, but instead when the smartphones were almost fully charged.

Some users believed it to be a bug in the latest operating system, while others thought of themselves having turned on the feature without realizing, reported Android Police.

However, it later turned out that Google was actually to blame. The company posted on Reddit where it acknowledged its mistake. It posted, “Hi all, some of you may have noticed that battery saver turned on automatically today. This was an internal experiment to test battery saving features that was mistakenly rolled out to more users than intended.”

Google admitted that it accidentally changed users’ setting without their consent. “We have now rolled battery saver settings back to default. Please configure to your liking. Sorry for the confusion,” the Pixel team wrote on the platform.

Moreover, when a Battery Saver is turned on, it does multiple things including stopping apps from refreshing content until opened, preventing apps from doing things in the background, stopping location service usage when the display is off, and delaying some notifications, wrote The Verge.
