Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan has said that the Safe City Project was being launched in the five cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Multan in the first phase at a cost of Rs 35 billion. "Under the Project, whole city will be watched by the eyes of camera from one control room and no criminal could escape after committing the crime," he told newsmen during inspection of the working of front desks in police station Kotwali here on Monday.
RPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana, CPO Afzal Ahmad Kausar and other officers were also present on the occasion. Responding to the questions, the Law Minister said that fake cases could not be registered if clean and transparent system was in place and the Punjab government was taking various steps to stop this practice also by proposing the amendments to the relevant law. He said that posting of officers was being made on purely merit basis without politicising the matter.
"Punjab government has taken revolutionary steps to make the working of different department in line with the modern technology for raising good governance and transparency in the official affairs," he said adding that deep-rooted Patwari Culture had been eliminated through Land Record Management Information System which was a great achievement.
Likewise, Rana Sanaullah said, "Thana Culture" would also be eradicated through use of modern technology. He said the system of front desks had yielded successful results under which track number was being issued to every complainant and police department itself contacted the complainant in lieu of pursuing the application by the complainant. "Information Technology expert staff has been deputed at these front desks without police uniform who welcomed the applicants with courtesy and good behaviour, which is a remarkable change in the working of police stations," he said asserting that Asia's first and World's second big and modern Forensic Lab had been established at a cost of Rs 10 billion by the Punjab government that was capable to cater needs of entire Pakistan, let alone Punjab province so far as taking the Crime Scene Evidences to trace the accused was concerned.
Punjab Law Minister said that the front desks had been established in the more than 200 police stations across the province and these desks would be established in the all police stations in Punjab by the end of this year. He enquired about the methodology of receiving the applications from the complainants. On the spot, he made a call to a complainant after having the cell number from the data in the computer and asked the complainant Jamshed about the action taken by the police on his application.
