A flag meeting of Pak-Afghan officials was held in Torkham on Monday to discuss implementation of restrictions on the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham. Assistant Political Agent (APA) Landi Kotal, Rahim Mehsud, Major Tauqeer and Torkham passport tehsildar Ghuncha Gul represented Pakistan while Colonel Nisar of Afghan border police, Captain Nasim and Afghan gate commander Amin Jan, represented Afghanistan at the flag meeting.
As part of National Action Plan, the Pakistan border security officials last month didn't allow any Afghan national to cross Torkham border without proper documents. The Afghan official requested that in respect of the holy month of Ramazan and in the best interest of Afghan nationals, the policy of legal entry from the border should be extended till the 10 days of the Eid-ul- Fitr. The Pakistani officials assured them that their grievances would be conveyed to 'high-ups' for final approval.
It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan has begun erecting fence along its side of the border at Torkham to curb illegal infiltration of militants and other anti-social elements from Afghanistan that created tension between the two neighbouring countries last week and also caused suspension of entry from Pak-Afghan border at Torkham for four days.
