The top court on Monday set aside the Election Tribunal decision to disqualify Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Muhammad Yaqoob Nadeem Sethi from PP-175 Kasur. Disposing of the plea in the matter, a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali turned down the ET verdict after a brief hearing of the case.
Sethi' opponent candidate Chaudhry Muhammad Ilyas had challenged the election results before the ET, levelling allegations of rigging in general elections of 2013 in the constituency. Accepting the Chaudhry's plea the ET issued directives to the Election Commission of Pakistan for reelection on the constituency. Challenging the ET verdict before the apex court, counsel for Sethi had prayed the court to declare the tribunal' decisions null and void. To which, after hearing the contentions of both the parties, the Supreme Court restored membership of PML-N MPA.
