Resuming the hearing of a suo motu case about 279 illegal appointments in Health Department of the Sindh province on Tuesday, Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali expressed dismay over the merit violation in the matter. A three-member judge bench led by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali resumed the hearing of a suo motu case observing that what were the reasons that provincial government was not following the merit while making appointments in the public sector.
He further remarked that it is the right of the people of Sindh province to get appointed in public sector departments on merit. The apex court had taken a suo motu notice of 279 illegal appointments made in the Sindh Health Department from Grade 1 to 17 including some male were appointed against posts of midwife in Jacobabad. Appearing in the matter before the bench Additional Advocate General Sindh Muhammad Sarwar Khan apprised that Chief Secretary Sindh has constituted a committee for probing the merit violations in the appointments.
A member of the bench, Justice Amir Hani Muslim pointed out that not only in Jacobabad but in other districts of the Sindh illegal appointments were also made. However, Additional Advocate General requested for one month time in order to submit a comprehensive report but the bench turned down his plea and directed him to submit report in the matter within two weeks. During the course of proceedings, responding to a petitioner, the Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali said, "We will pray and you also pray for the protection of coming generation". The hearing of the matter was adjourned for two weeks.
