A special meeting of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek's central working council took place on Tuesday to review a string of preparations for the June 17 Martyrs' Day which party head Tahirul Qadri will lead in the Punjab capital city. Senior party leader Hassan Mohiyuddin Qadri chaired the meeting which also drew in party presidents and secretary generals of 36 district of the province.
The party also plans a peaceful protest on the same day against the Punjab government failure to arrest wrongdoers of the 2014 Model Town incident.
In his address, leader Mohiyuddin Qadri told his audience, "The court has rejected our writ and now the government cannot deprive us of our right to stage a peaceful protest on The Mall Road. Dr Tahirul Qadri will address the peaceful sit-in and protestors on June 17."
He then talked about the party's world-wide demonstrations, including over 90 countries, and also inviting members of the Parliament to take part in them.
The party also plans to stage sit-ins in Karachi and Quetta choosing the slogan "June 14, where is law?"
He said the party offices had been told to speed up a contact campaign nation-wide and all bar associations, civil societies and social organisations had been invited too.
Different committees have been set-up to oversee the preparations for the June 17 demonstration.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur has been given the task of inviting different political parties and civil and social organisations.
He said in the next few days the final date of the party head's arrival would be officially announced.
The meeting finally condoled with families of the dead party activists, Allama Abid Tahiri and Ghulam Mohammed.
Those who attending the meeting were party office-holders Khawaja Aamer Fareed, Fayyaz Warraich, Basharat Jaspal, Mohammed Mushtaq, GM Malik, Sardar Shakir Mazari, Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan, Rana Mohammed Idrees, Sajid Bhatti, Ishtiaq Chaudhry, Asif Suleharia, Mazhar Alvi, Chaudhry Irfan Yousaf and Ayeshia Mubasher.
