Ahmed Kamal of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said power plants in India are responsible for increasing heatwave in Pakistan. Kamal who is also representative of the NDMA at the Prime Minister's House made these comments while speaking exclusively to a private television channel Sunday.
He said that India was producing 9000 MW electricity from coal powered power plants on his northern border with Pakistan. This had led to faster melting of glaciers in the northern areas of Pakistan which was responsible for increasing heatwave in lower level plain areas. Pakistan has been facing increasing heatwave crisis led to hundreds of deaths last year. The crisis is expected to increase in the upcoming months in summer.
