As the rising temperature has started melting snow in the hilly areas up country the water flow has increased in the four live rivers. After meeting irrigation water needs of the four provinces, the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has also begun to fill the two major reservoirs of the country ie Tarbela and Mangla respectively on the rivers Indus and Jhelum.
According to 7th June WAPDA report following is the position of the river inflows and outflows at Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma along with the reservoirs levels and the barrages,: Indus at Tarbela: Inflows 152100 cusecs and Outflows 144300 cusecs, Kabul at Nowshera: Inflows 63300 cusecs and Outflows 63300 cusecs, Jhelum at Mangla: Inflows 50700 cusecs and Outflows 25000 cusecs, Chenab at Marala: Inflows 54500 cusecs and Outflows 22800 cusecs.
Barrages: Jinnah: Inflows 210500 cusecs and Outflows 202200 cusecs, Chashma: Inflows 224500 cusecs and Outflows 211000 cusecs, Taunsa: Inflows 176600 cusecs and Outflows 149600 cusecs, Panjnad: Inflows 17100 cusecs and Outflows 1700 cusecs, Guddu: Inflows 136500 cusecs and Outflows 109500 cusecs, Sukkur: Inflows 94000 cusecs and Outflows 53800 cusecs, Kotri: Inflows 33500 cusecs and Outflows Nil.
Reservoirs (Level and Storage): Tarbela: Minimum operating level 1380 feet, present level 1451.57 feet, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage today 1.554 million acre feet (MAF).
Mangla: Minimum operating level 1040 feet, present level 1196.20 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 4.171 MAF.
Chashma: Minimum operating level 637 feet, present level 648.00 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage today 0.240 MAF
Punjab Irrigation department told Business Recorder that the water regulatory body is releasing more than 2,80,000 cusecs water in the sprawling canal irrigation network of the country fulfilling all irrigation water indents of the four provinces for sowing the strategic Kharif crops including cotton, rice, sugarcane, maize, vegetables, and fodder for the livestock.
They said that Punjab is receiving about 57,000 cusecs from the Indus zone whereas Sindh and Baluchistan provinces are being supplied 1,36,000 cusecs water at Guddu barrage.
