Expressing concern over the conversion of an Islamic Center into cinema house in Karachi, the top court hinted at deciding whether the center could be turned into a cinema. A three member judge bench led by the Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali on Thursday resumed the hearing of suo motu case in response to Ameer Jamat-e-Islami Karachi, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman in the matter.
Submitting a report in pursuance of the court directives in the matter, Karachi Municipal Corporation informed that being mayor of Karachi in 1986, Abdul Sattar Afghani founded the building of Islamic Center Karachi. The report disclosed that no approval was sought from the relevant quarter to establish culture and community complex in the Islamic Center. Seeking reply from the entertainment company, running the cinema business in the place, the bench adjourned the hearing of the case for a month.
