Muhammad Yameen, Advisor to Federal Ombudsman's Regional Office has asked K-Electric to void load-shedding and overbilling in the month of Ramazan. He said this while conducting hearings of various complaints submitted by residents of Landhi, Korangi, Malir and Shah Faisal Colony against 'overbilling' by KE at Deputy Commissioner Malir's camp office on Thursday.
Yameen said that the Federal Ombudsman was playing an important role for providing justice to the people. The office has created awareness among them to get their complaints resolved through this platform. Number of consumers thronged to the camp to register their complaints. A complainant Naseer alleged that K-Electric's officials instead of catching power thieves, were bent upon making cartel with them while on the other hand excessive bills were imposed on honest and loyal consumers (who honestly pay their bills) by the power utility with impunity. "I have also been charged a hefty bill of Rs 74,000 which is unjustified," he added.
The consumers on this occasion requested the Ombudsman official to order survey and checking load inside the premises. Another applicant Ehtesham-ul-Haq told that he was upset due to KE's overbilling for the last one year. Reacting on his concern, the Ombudsman Court issued the order to revise the bill. Another applicant Naeemullah Qureshi told that he did not use washing machine or other heavy power consuming appliance at his home. Instead of this, KE has charged heavy bill which he cannot afford to pay as his monthly salary is Rs 12,000 only.
On this, Muhammad Yameen asked him to pay the actual bill in instalments after removing the amount of overbilling. According to Behleem Bilqees Jaan, Deputy Director Federal Ombudsman's regional office, GM K-Electric Maroof Solangi, Co-ordinator KE Landhi Riyaz Ahmed, Co-ordinator Korangi Ehtsham-ul-Haq, co-ordinator of Malir Aqeel Muhammad and Manager Shah Faisal Colony Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman were also present on this occasion.
