Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad, Moatasim Abbasi, visited different markets of the city to check prices of daily use items and directed the traders and shop keepers to comply with the rate list issued by the district administration.
Heavy penalties would be imposed over profiteers, hoarders and violators of prices fixed by government, he warned while talking to shopkeepers and traders during visit of Sabzi Mandi, Lajpat Road, Lateefabad unit 8 and Hussainabad areas of Hyderabad, said a press release issued by Sindh Information Department.
The DC visited the vegetable whole sell market and inspected the auction process of vegetables and fruits. He asked whole sellers to ensure sell of vegetables and fruits on fixed prices, avoid hoarding and profiteering and display price list at a prominent place of shop so that buyers could see the prices.
He also directed assistant commissioners and Mukhtiarkars to keep vigil on markets particularly on prices and availability of edibles and other items of daily use, conduct surprise raids and take stern action against shopkeepers, traders and cart owners found over charging.
The DC told that assistant commissioners and mukhtiarkars conducted raids to check price situation and availability of food and other items of daily use, imposed fine over shopkeepers and cart owners for overcharging and violating price list. Revenue officials charged Rs 1,41,000 in Hyderabad City, Rs 24000 in Latifabad and Rs 3000 in Hyderabad rural talukas from profiteers, he informed adding that non compliance would lead to hefty penalties and even imprisonment of the violator.
