The Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan pressed NADRA to ensure that set timelines are strictly followed for launch of the CNIC re-verification drive across Pakistan. The minister directed NADRA chairman to speed up putting in place the required systems for launching the re-verification drive within shortest possible time.
The Interior Minister was chairing a meeting here on Wednesday attended by Secretary Interior, National Co-ordinator NACTA, DG Immigration & Passport, DG ANF, chairman NADRA, IG Islamabad, DG Civil Defence and chief commissioner Islamabad.
"No slackness will be tolerated on part of any official at any level in relation to the launch of CNIC re-verification drive and it has to be completed within a span of six months," the Interior Minister directed chairman NADRA. The Interior Minister asserted, that a set-timeline also be given by NADRA for sending short-message-service (sms) to all the 105 million CNIC customers.
This important national security objective can only be achieved, he said, once the CNIC re-verification drive comes to a successful end with elimination of aliens from NADRA's database. Chairman NADRA also briefed the minister over the media campaign prepared by NADRA for awareness of the general masses in relation to re-verification drive of CNICs. The Minister, meanwhile, also approved the central database format prepared by NADRA meant for the proclaimed offenders.
The Minister was informed that FIA, ICT Police and ANF have so far provided record of 7678 Proclaimed Offenders for inclusion in the Central databank. It is worth mentioning that Islamabad Police since April till date has arrested 1196 POs.
The Minister directed that all the law-enforcement agencies should benefit from the central data registry of proclaimed offenders being maintained by NADRA. The interior minister also directed FIA, ANF and Islamabad Police to speed up their operation for ensuring the arrests of proclaimed offenders who are involved in heinous crimes with zero tolerance approach.
The minister also ordered IG Islamabad for putting in place a transparent and merit based recruitment system that should give equal opportunities to talented youth to become part of Islamabad Police force. The Director General Immigration and Passport briefed the interior minister about the online renewal of passports. The minister directed DG immigration to ensure that online facility is made available to the expatriates and citizens living in Pakistan at the minimum possible additional cost.
Discussing the Safe City Project, the minister ordered a weekly report should be submitted by the Islamabad Police to his office about the gains made through the $125 million Safe City Project towards improved policing in capital. He directed IG Islamabad Police that all police stations in ICT should submit a weekly report to his office with regards to registration of FIRs and action taken on them especially apprehending proclaimed offenders. The interior minister said that weekly report on heinous crime in federal capital including murder, robbery, kidnapping and kidnapping for ransom, and car snatching should also be submitted to his office.-PR
