The Punjab Agriculture Minister Dr Farrukh Javed has warned that unjustifiable profiteering will not be tolerated especially during the sacred month of Ramazan. He also warned that those caught involved in illegal profiteering will be behind the bars. The Minister was speaking to the masses and the shopkeepers after visiting Ramazan Bazaar in different areas of the provincial metropolis.
The Minister who took notice of shortage of lemon in Ramazan bazaars two days back was happy to see that now this commodity is not only available but also cheaper than the open market. It was noticed that lemon was available at Rs 180 per kilogram in Ramazan bazaar against Rs 250 per kilogram in the open market. The Minister appreciated the efforts of the administration.
Dr Farrukh Javed said the government is fully committed to provide quality daily use items on cheaper rates to the consumers during the ongoing ramazaan. He said whole administration is in the field to provide relief to the customers and illegal profiteers are being brought in to the net of law. The Minister visited Ramazaan bazaars in Johar Town and Township and talked to the customers and media representatives. The Minister also checked the moisture content in flour bags which was found at 10.5 per cent. He also visited the stalls of sugar, vegetables and fruits.
He claimed that a large number of consumers were visiting Ramazan Bazaars on daily basis and ensuring a saving of hundreds of rupees. He claimed that prices of these markets were also making a positive impact on prices in the open market. He said that price control magistrates were also keeping a vigil on the quality and prices of the daily use items in open market too.
